It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally started our blog! Every month (or so...) we will update you on what exciting events we’ve been to, let you know what is coming up, and put a spotlight on our members – many of whom are artists in their own right.
Last month was a busy one, we sang back up for Tanita Takiram, performed in front of a prestigious audience at the Tusk Awards, and on 17 November, joined the globally recognised DJ AG for one of his iconic live street sessions.
DJ AG — whose real name is Ashley Gordon — has risen to viral fame for transforming London’s public spaces into vibrant music arenas. Known for his community-first approach, he invites both emerging and established artists, including Idris Elba, who featured the choir on his 2014 release “Thank you for Freedom”.

The atmosphere was electric as our singers: Crystal Kassi, Papa Owura, Joshua Eze, Derrick Kiteke, Joshua Suubi, Princess Kumba Kelly, Charlene Michael-Imobioh, and Gabrielle Roachford, stepped into the heart of the crowd, delivering our afro-inspired rendition of Bob Marley’s timeless classic, “Redemption Song.” The song is part of our ‘Bob Marley’s Songbook’ show, which puts an African twist on many of the reggae classics, and introducing the choir’s harmonies, rhythmic vocal arrangements, and joyful presence. The streets of Camden were instantly captivated, with passers-by cheering, dancing, and singing along with heartfelt excitement. For tickets to future ‘Marley’ show, go to our upcoming events page.

Moments later, LAGC elevated the energy even higher with a special performance of “ESE (Thank You)” by Joshua Eze. Joshua, born Joshua Ohakwere-Eze, is a multifaceted London-based Nigerian artist whose music blends afrobeat, gospel inspiration, and soulful storytelling. As well as singing, Eze writes, acts, designs, and dances. His October 2025 release, “ESE” featuring Nessa, has been praised for its vibrant sound and meaningful message. Beautifully written by Joshua himself, the song reflects gratitude, faith, and the richness of African musical expression — making it a perfect collaboration piece with LAGC.

The collaboration with DJ AG highlights what the London African Gospel Choir does best:bringing people together through music that uplifts, inspires, and bridges cultural worlds. From classic reggae to modern afrobeat, LAGC continues to champion the spirit of African gospel in bold, contemporary spaces.
2026 sees LAGC go to Liverpool Philharmonic, where you can hear Redemption Song live and direct, amongst an evening of Reggae classics by the legendary Bob Marley.
